Objectives of this role

  • ●  Review and prepare workflows, staffing requirements, space allocations, equipment layouts, and action plans that meet company standards for productivity, quality, and customer service

About This Role:

The Extension Nutrition Program, within K-State Research and Extension, is currently seeking a part-time Nutrition Educator. The

 

Nutrition Educator serves to meet the Kansas

mission of empowering low-income Kansans using evidence-based strategies to achieve healthy lives and reduce health disparities. Specific strategies include direct education in various settings; community-based projects to address policy, system, or environmental changes; and public health approaches to help children, families and adults improve dietary quality and food resource management skills and increase physical activity.

 

This position reports to the Flint Hills District Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent.

Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed)

Supplemental Nutrition

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Collaborate with local extension agent(s) to assess low-income residents' nutrition and health needs.

Coordinate, prepare, and deliver curriculum-based nutrition education programming to limited resource groups and individuals

of various ages in settings such as: Housing Authorities, Food Banks, Schools, etc.

Develop partnerships and contacts with local service agencies, school districts, and other community organizations.

Serve as the local SNAP-Ed program and K-State Research & Extension representative for Flint Hills District.

Participate in local community coalitions to promote, implement and support initiatives for Policy, System, and Environmental changes related to SNAP-Ed goals and objectives.

Gather data and compile county SNAP-Ed reports and records for submission to the state SNAP-Ed office on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.

Location and Worksite Options:

This position will serve Flint Hills District, which has offices in Council Grove and Cottonwood Falls. The nutrition educator’s primary office location will be in Council Grove, KS. Regular travel to various sites within Flint Hills District is required, along with occasional overnight travel for training (approximately 3-4 times per year).

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment locations.

  • JOB DUTIES:
    Seasonal interns have the opportunity to gain valuable career experience in: visitor assistance, water safety education, regulation enforcement through land and water patrols, natural resource management work, recreational area management, campground management interpretation programs, flood risk management, general maintenance, invasive species control, trail development/maintenance, prescribed burning, along with many other duties.

  • AREA OF CONSIDERATION:

    • Applicants will be considered on their qualifications and work ethic.

    • Park Rangers will be considered on their availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays from May through mid-September. Working weekends while school is in session and 40 hours per week during the summer.

  • EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • All students must possess and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.

    • Students majoring in a field related to natural resource management, park and conservation management, biology, natural sciences, agronomy, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, recreation administration, behavioral science, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
